Re: Success!
Yes, they have an aviary all to themselves!
The log is up high, and to be honest I can't remember where I got it because i've had it for so long!

Re: Success!
Hey Ellie, yeah it certainly is a natural tree log, I give them a choice between that and a man made box and they go for the tree log every time!

Re: Success!
Julie I took the egg out once I confirmed it was infertile after a few days. I didn't want it to smash or go bad.
Not a bad effort to get 4 hatched, well done!

LOL @ Grampa! I suppose I am!
Just checked them earlier, all 3 doing great, crops nice and full, all warm. Will keep checking them every now and then just in case the smallest one doesn't get left behind. I'm all set up in case I have to intervene. I have learned lots from last year!

Congrats Pinkdevil, great pics. Just out of interest, what are the dimensions of the nest box for a rainbow lorikeet? I'm getting to the point where I'd really like to get a female for my male. Cheers, Tim.
Success!
Well after a dud clutch of 4 eggs first up I had almost given up hope of any young ones this year. I checked the nest tonight, where mum was having another shot at it, and sitting on another 4, it turns out 3 of them were fertile! :o 1 has fully hatched, and the other 2 were knocking on the door, th...

Re: DUD EGGS WHAT TO DO
Sarah, the exact same thing happened to me last year. The first lot of eggs were all infertile and I was very disappointed! I am pretty sure the reason was that the male was inexperienced (even though he is fully mature) and the hen typically scared the crap out of him. I took the nest box down so t...

Hi all, been a while since I posted anything, so thought I better catch up with what's been happening! My pair of ringnecks bred for the first time last year, and reared 2 beautiful young blue babies. The same pair are now sitting on 4 eggs, so i'm looking forward to what's ahead! Now, time to retur...

Thanks guys, he's doing very well and now has pin feathers. Julie, very good point, we have done all the right things as we have had help from an avian vet at our local animal aid so she is going to guide us through the health process, as she is an expert in nurturing wild birds that have been orpha...

My dad was overjoyed to find a pair of Galahs were nesting high up in a gum tree in his backyard. That turned to despair when his dog alerted him to 2 chicks on the ground at the base of the tree. It didn't take him long to work out that the Galah's had been driven out of their nest by a group of In...

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum. You live in a nice area, I'm south of Melbourne, near Frankston. Unfortunately I can't help you with the screeching as my birds are in outdoor aviaries. Plenty of people on here who might be able to help though, maybe it's just a stage your bird is going through? Chee...

Re: Joining in the fun
Hi Julie,
She's definitely an Albino.
Not sure if it's normal for them to have some blue through the tail, although I might have to have a closer look at her in case the light / camera flash is causing it to look like there's blue. I hadn't noticed it until you asked!!

This sounds strange because they're so readily available, but I've always wanted to breed a pair of Galahs!! Love their personality and funny antics, and would love to hand raise. Always loved King Parrots as well. Oh, and Sun Conures...and...and...... the list could get rather long.... If you're ta...

Love those pics Bec!
Maybe it's a Ringneck thing?? Where the males do what they can to make mum comfortable?
Checked the bubs again today and mum had eaten all of the broccoli. I checked because I didn't want any rotting food in there, turns out i didn't have to worry!

Joining in the fun
My pair have finally had their first successful family!
2 chicks, maybe 3, hatched around Thursday or Friday.
Will know for sure how many soon, just want to give mum some space as it's her first successful breed, and she's a nervous mum.
Expecting visual blue & albino babies.
Happy days!

Hi Sheena, First attempt for mine resulted in infertile eggs. Admittedly I removed the nest box for about a week, to try and re-initiate the bonding process because I wasn't convinced they bonded properly. It actually worked, they fell in love, were observed mating etc and are currently sitting on e...

Yeah tell me about it!! Another interesting thing that I forgot to mention. Earlier that day, I walked out the front door only to be confronted by a pair of Spur Winged Plover’s mating on next doors roof!! I should’ve taken that as a sign. A very interesting courtship ritual I might add….. and poten...

Unsuccessful, but positive signs....
I checked the 3 eggs my pair had today and they were all infertile. I had an idea that this was the case because I only introduced the male in Feb, and it took them an eternity for them to show any signs of bonding. Both birds are mature, so age is not the issue. I didn't see them mate because every...

Hi there, I / we had the same concern with my wife's pregnancy last year. We have 3 indoor cats, Russian Blues, and toxoplasmosis can occur in cats, and pregnant women should avoid handling pet litter, or anything to do with cat faeces. The parasite primarily lives in cats. We contacted our doctor a...
