I feed her loriwet and loridry. I wouldn't ever give her those pellets, she wouldn't eat them. I also feed her apples, grapes, strawberries, canned peaches, occasionally some honey mixed in with her wet mix. Oh, you're right about the mess!!! I've got miniature lories (the varied and purple crown) a...

Thanks guys. She hasn't done a coloured poo in three days. I've stopped giving her anything coloured to check if it's the food. That's what the vet recommended I do before I bring her in. I thought it was weird that she wasn't showing any other signs of being sick than the red poos. I might leave it...

Hi guys, This question is about my lorikeet, Nibbler, but I'm hoping you can still help. I was cleaning my varied lorikeet's cage on the weekend and I noticed that there were red markings on her tray. It was the same look as her normal dried droppings, just like they had been dyed red. I'm really wo...

Well, that cheeky little bugger!! Doesn't surprise me though, his such a determind and sometimes insolent little thing. Mimicing?
The other day Iago started squarking at me for a longer time than usual and when he stopped I'm like 'Don't be so silly Iago' and mimiced him in his squarking (though quieter of course) and he did a couple of quiet squarks back which shocked me. Was he mimicing me, or feeling threatened by my squark...

Whopping of his life
I was watching Pirates of the Carribean 3 last night and in one scene I noticed the beautiful Blue and Gold Macaw was trying to keep his balance whilst his holder was climbing out a boat and I started laughing. You see, in order to keep his balance, he was flapping his wings whilst still holding on,...

Can birds change sex?
My fiance is adament that birds can change their sex within the first year like some fish can and I don't believe him.
He says it's so ratios of males and females in the wild stay the same.
Does anyone know of any birds that can change their sex?

More aggressive colour?
Hi guys, I was at my local avicultural society meeting last week and when I mentioned I had a Blue IRN they said that Blue's are the most aggressive colour. Now Iago does bite me occasionally (never takes any skin or chunks though) but I think that's just part of being tamed, not an aggressive thing...

Where to put in the house?
Hi guys, I recently moved into a three bedroom house from a 2 bedroom unit and I don't know whether to use the extra room as a bird room or keep them in the lounge room. I know that keeping them in the lounge room will give them more human interaction and will help with the taming of Iago to be arou...

What type of wood for breeding boxs?
Hi guys,
I'm hoping my lovebirds are going to breed soon and I'm trying to find them a breeding box but they're all too small. I want like an English budgie breeding box.
So I'm thinking of making my own but I'm not sure if you need a specific type of wood to make them out of. Anyone know?

I'm currently in the process of switching my IRN from seeds to pellets. The instructions on the packet for switching says to mix a 50:50 mix of seeds and pellets, put enough water in to make the mixture sticky, form into a patty or rissole and put the fresh patty in it's seed container. Slowly decre...

Do I leave food in the cage all day?
Hi guys, just wondering if you should leave some sort of food (such as a seed mix) in the cage all day? I give Iago some veggie's and grains in the morning and fruit when I get home from work at about 5 but I also leave his seed bowl in there all the time incase he gets hungry during the day. There'...
