Most start breeding around two years. I personally would wait till the birds are three years. Some breeders have recorded instances of young males without their ring successfully mating and raising babies. I hope this helps.
As exciting as it might be, the rings come in later--roughly 18 months to three years. Even females have a slight ring. My Devri looks as if she has a ring; however, she is a female. Hope this helps!
Welcome to our family!:) I swear we have the best ringneck family around. Most everyone puts their heart and soul into each post. I know you'll enjoy it here!:)
What a fascinating thread. Thank you all! I learned at lot. I gotta grasp genetics. It's amazing all the work done to develop new mutations. Left speechless! :0)
From my perspective your bird looks quite mature (Over 2 years). From the shape of the skull it looks to be femalish. The green cap on the head, to me, says she has had her full molt already. She has lost those baby soft feathers too from the looks of the photos. But i could be wrong--it's could be ...
Thanks all for the compliments. :O) Hey AjPeter, That is one of my breeder pairs. It's a male turquoise breeder, he's such a Don Juan with ladies. The female there is one of Archimedes' sisters though. Unfortunately, try as he might, my Archimedes has no game. Ha ha ha! He tries to impress Devri but...
I see the pros and cons for both sides. The most important thing to do is educate parrot owners before they purchase these little guys. All to often people buy on impulse and it's the bird that suffers. But I hear ya Miss K! I've seen so many birds damaged due to our irresponsibility. Best Wi...
Hey Dara999, Sounds like he is one amazing little guy, eh? I bet he just magnificent! I love cobalt ringnecks. Sounds like you're off to a great start with taming. I don't think you're little guy is bluffing, but rather just nippy at the moment. It should pass just as long as you ignore it and only ...
I love her gaze at the camera. Very cute! I love female ringnecks. They develop such strong bonds. My Devri is my little love bug. She'll do anything for me.
What a beautiful green female. I love green female ringnecks.
Kislanya, This is such a wonderful post! You are an Angel sent from the heavens. :O) These birds are such magnificent creatures. They have such personality, such character that at times I don't understand people's logic, "It's just a bird!" It gives me great comfort that these birds have f...
I'm gong to share this via facebook with roughly 8000 IRN lovers. Give me any information, links, etc...I'll start reporting this information via IndainRingneck.com and throughout all my social media channels...does anyone have a google doc account? I'm going to draft a report..perhaps we can all co...
Hello chrisada, Ringnecks can be quite funny at times. I often say that you can tell a ringneck's sex by its behavior; however, this is not always the case! In fact, there are some ringnecks who exhibit behaviors from both sexes so it can be confusing at times. One of our members here has a ringneck...
Hello hulkie123, Sounds like you have your hands full! It must be exciting to have all those birds live with you. I know I enjoy having my parrots around me. From your post, it seems like your grey Indian Ringneck has bonded to your father. This is typical behavior if the bird is matured. Does he ha...
Hello and welcome to our ringneck family. Sounds like you have your hands full, huh? Feeding two babies is a lot of work! :) I know firsthand how demanding and tedious the work is. You've asked some wonderful questions and I'd be glad to answer. :O) But before I get into your answers I highly recomm...
I filmed this last year but could not upload it due to so many events in my life. Anyway, I hope many people will come to see that parrots form such strong bonds. Enjoy.
aw she is amazing. imo there is nothing like a green ringneck. green is my favorite color. :) btw from the photo, to me, by the skull shape, your ringneck looks to be femaleish. but like the others said the only way is through dna testing or waiting out the three years. but anyway she is one cute bi...
wow. so excited for you. yes you're 100% right. Once your baby settles in he'll be loud. ; 0) its such an illusion that they're quiet when they r babies. :0)
on my cell, sorry for quick reply. 1. when she bites pull hand back. ignore it. dont react or scold her. elle was right, rotate hand to distract her. 2. continue holding her. don't let her know that biting will control the situation. should she bite go about your business handling her. 3. I have pha...
First of all, welcome to our website. We have wonderful members here who put a lot of time helping Indian Ringneck owners. It really is a great place to learn about Indian Ringnecks in general. From your description it seems your Indian Ringneck is already tame. By "tame" I mean he sits wi...
It all depends on the size of the cage. If the cage is large, I would place heavy branches to ensure mating is successful. I would also take branches with leaves form fruit trees or eucalyptus and place them inside too. In most cases, just ensure there is a nice platform made of wood or wire for mat...
Tyeman it is a good thing you got him back! I always keep my ringnecks wings clipped as I take them almost everywhere with me. Onetime I was in a canyon hiking with Devri and a huge dog came and scared the crap outta her--her response was to fly away. I spent almost 6 hours tracking her down. I had ...
I think white gloves are fine. In fact, it is something I recommend for larger parrots that are aggressive. One particular parrot I was dealing with was a lot like a lion. He would pounce on my fingers and bite the heck out of me! You know, like a lion attacking a wildebeest and tearing at its throa...
Hello, Welcome. I'm really sorry you lost your first ringneck. It can be a tough thing, huh? I too almost once lost Devri. But, I spent hours searching for her and I was lucky enough to get her back. It's amazing what can happen in the blink of an eye. It's still not 2 late to get your other ringnec...
Welcome to the family !:) So many wonderful members here. :D Taming is so much fun and it can be a slow or fast process, it all depends on the bird. But I think the other members nailed it. Do search, then if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Best Wishes  , IMRAN-C
Hello, It sounds like she might be a young and nervous hen. Because you just purchased her, she might need more time settling in before she successfully reproduces. The only thing you can do is give her more privacy, ensure her diet is optimal, keep the cage in a higher location, and give her time. ...
Welcome to our forum. We have a wonderful set of ringneck owners here. Really, it's so touching to see so many people love their birds as much as we do. You're in for a wonderful treat if you tame your ringnecks. Just remember things might progress a little slower due to the fact you have two birds....
Shahar101, I believe you said your ringneck is 11 weeks old, correct? At 11 weeks he should be curious about his surroundings. In fact, he should not be so still. The good news is that you said his droppings look to be normal and he has a healthy appetite. There should not be a lot of liquid in his ...
Wow, Nicko and Meg look to be so happy. I love the setup. Very pretty ringnecks. How long does the tree last before you have to replace it? Also, i love the last photo when both ringnecks are in flight--amazing. Great cages! :OP
Aw, they love it! :) They have such a great owner. You can see how much they enjoy the water. All my ringnecks take turns hopping in the shower with me. I have to watch Devri though cause she'll let the warm water run for 30 minutes. She it totally in love with warm water. :) BTW! Such amazing color...
Aw, he is so cute! They are so much fun when they are babies. I bet right now all he wants to do is hide, huh? So typical of baby ringnecks. I love the color. They have such big feet.
Hello, All my birds are potty trained. In fact, I trained Osiris, my Alexandrine, to poop when I set him down on the floor or before I remove him from his cage. It's wonderful. I don't have have to worry about poop on my shoulders. But at the same time, I have be the one to place him down every 15-2...
Heck yeah! It would be a lot of fun for them. Just be sure the sun flower is clean and has no pesticides on it. If I were you, I would take the flower off and soak it in the sink and bake it. This would ensure it's clean and safe. Using a whole sunflower is stimulating and enjoyable for the birds--m...
These "stations" are a lot like pointers. I think they are great. You could use the tip of a pen, drum stick, or other pointing device to lead the bird where you want it. I love it when people refine their craft. Makes taming so much more fun and efficient. I'm using a pointer to help Osir...
