Thanks for the advice, peoples! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a tailess bird! I will hope that Busey gets a pretty new tail with his next molt! Seriously - he has "duck butt" right now. As far as the cage goes - he never breaks his tail feathers when he's IN his cage! It's the jumping OFF th...

After seeing those pics, I know that Busey's ne "dance" is normal! LOL
He's been cracking me up lately with that open-wing- a bit-shoulder-shrug-pull-back move, and I can see that your bird does it too!

Just so you know...
Busey is TOTALLY in love with Datsun!
We sit and look at the birdie pics and he just goes crazy over these.

It's Busey!

Okay - Busey HATES the camera! He runs away when I bring it out. He turns his back if I try to take his picture. How did you guys get your birds to love being on camera? As you can see - the top of the playstand is the only safe place to hide from the camera! http://xenobia.com/1105busey1.jpg http:/...

My baby is 7 months old

And my partner is sad that he doesn't love him anymore! See, Busey used to have Rick as his favorite person. Now he's all about me. I told Rick that he's just being fickle, and is most likely going through his bluffing phase. He's been biting Rick lately. Hard. He's also being a little poo-poo head ...

Well, at first it was almonds.
Then raw peanuts in the shell.
But as of Saturday, Busey has forsaken all those for dried red hot peppers.
Everything is dropped if he sees the pepper bag come out.
Ever get a birdie kiss after they've been eating hot peppers?

My bird has no tail!

Well, okay - he has three tailfeathers. You see, Busey likes to play rough. And jump. And climb in precarious positions. So the tailfeathers get broken and subsequently bitten off during grooming. And yes - his cage is at least as tall as him twice again when he DOES have a tail. He's only 7 months ...

I'm soooo jealous!

I wish I had a snuggle bunny!
But nooooooooo - a hand is only to be stepped on. Scratches are NOT permitted!
I keep trying to tell him that it feels so good! I even scratch my own head and make happy noises.
Busey is not convinced.
:)

They do it because it's fun!

Seriously - fresh water in the morning, fresh water when I'm home for lunch, fresh water when I get home in the afternoon. I'm used to it.

Oh Mikaela, I totally know what you mean! My partner has anxiety problems and I've noticed that just talking to Busey and playing with him can make him a lot more calm. Of course the flock call will drive him nuts too I find that the contact/flock call is the only really annoying/loud sound Busey ma...

Moulting?

I've always heard that IRNs moult in the spring. For some reason, it seems as if Busey is moulting NOW. Busey is just about six months old and he's losing a good amount of small feathers and starting to look really ratty. He has a whole patch of sheathed pretty new feathers coming in on the top of h...

Busey has taught me to play fetch.
Yep.
He shakes his jingle ball all over the top of the cage, then leans over the edge & drops it!
Then he sits there & looks at it - runs over to me - goes back to look at it - until I go get it for him.
Repeat the above in approximately 2 minutes.

I agree with Mileka! The best "punishment" you can give an IRN is to deny them something they want. When Busey decides he wants to be nippy/obnoxious with me, I pick him up and set him inside the cage and close the door. Since he would rather be on the outside this cheeses him off to no end. I tell ...

Are you sure that's the actual feather color? The red, I mean. The first thing I thought was that it was his breeder marking him to tell sex at a glance. My Busey has a big dark green patch on his head because the breeder marked him with a vegetable based dye to be able to tell him apart from the re...

Busey came to me via delta dash. It is a service that ships mostly pets and corpses. The people who were handling the animals (there was also a cocker spaniel and a venomous lizard on the flight!) seemed to be very careful and caring with handling the animals. I guess that's because they're trained ...

I like the green males the best - so that's what we got!
:)

I also like the double violets and the blues with white heads (splits?), but those are pretty hard to find mutations.

Finally got him!

http://xenobia.com/birdie4-web.jpg Here's our new baby with no name yet. Sitting on my head. I let him get up there if he's been good at doing his step ups. He was recently weaned and came to us from a breeder in Georgia. He was terrified when I picked him up at the airport Saturday, but he's been ...
