Re: step up ?
There are many people that don't believe in clipping wings, but for early training purposes, such as problems you are having, clipped wings make it so much easier. As the flight feathers grow back, maybe she will be better adjusted and more trustworthy to let fly and come back to 'step up'.

Re: wing clipping ?
You might want to start with wing clipping, then (if uncomfortable with the idea, have a vet or experienced bird owner do it for you), so that you can acquaint her with being handled without the hassle of having her fly away. Barbara Heidenreich (well-known bird trainer and author of GoodBird Magaz...

Re: Mature Male Pasting Food on Mirror
Thank you! I think this new behavior is much more infatuation than obsessive behavior. It makes me feel better that you experience similar activity! By the way, I love the picture of your baby. I didn't have mine when he was young, and have loved to have experienced that time.

Re: wing clipping ?
We clip our males wings when he cops an attitude (meaning, he will decide he doesn't want to step up or go back to his cage). We will give him lee-way to fly once in a while to exercise his wings. Of course, if he isn't used to having his wings clipped or there are other factors, such as other hous...

Re: Mature Male Pasting Food on Mirror
Thank you Ellie. Most definitely, we wouldn't consider the 2nd bird in a light manner. The longevity of this particular addition to the family is a HUGE consideration. And, I don't like to give them up to new owners; we have done it before, and it isn't something I like to go through. I appreciate ...

Re: Mature Male Pasting Food on Mirror
Ellie, After finding this site, I see other people are having no problem with two birds. It will be a while before we take that step, though. We just successfully found a good home for an Eclectus we had the last two years. It is SO peaceful without her squawking. She was so much louder than we rea...

Re: Pics of Mojo & Ka ^_^
Tinypic worked for me.. a new try yesterday. The picture had to be correctly sized for this site before it would work.

Re: First time with IRN's
I noticed an earlier post about 'clipping the wings a bit' to keep the bird from getting lift, but he can still glide. That is exactly what I do.. I clip when he gets attitude and let him exercise his wings during times of agreeable behavior. So, what I think about clipping the wings is that the ea...

Re: First time with IRN's
We have a couple of different types of window/shower perches. Search the internet. The cheapest (and easiest to make) are made out of PVC pipe-hard white plastic- and all three types adhere to window with suction cups. As I read through your posts, I notice comment about lactose intolerance. I belie...

Re: Mature Male Pasting Food on Mirror
Thank you, Fieldz!! My family is enjoying this thought.. that our little wonder is feeding his friend. Now, I think I will wait until he is out of his cage in the a.m. to clean up the mirrors, so I don't feel guilty about removing all of his hard work (who knows, maybe he will assume his friend ate...

Does anyone have information about my birds behavior? Don't know if I should cover toy or not worry at all.

Re: First time with IRN's
About the clipping/non-clipping issue. Until your new babies are more comfortable with you and recognize you as their source for all love and nourishment, I would recommend clipping their wings. Keep them clipped until they are more mature, then decide on whether you want them flying around home. We...

Mature Male Pasting Food on Mirror
We bought our male IRN a mirror toy with buttons underneath the mirror that talk when pressed. He loves it, and plays with it a lot at night before bed. Then, about a month ago, he began making a paste out of his pellets and he spends a good amount of time covering the mirror with this paste (even w...
